Our story starts in the beautiful state of North Carolina. It was on August 22, 1963 when a Methodist Reverend and his wife gave birth to Myra Ellen Amos. She was then a beautiful red-head child, whose interest in the piano was sparked at a very early age. However, the world does not know this woman by the name Myra Ellen Amos - they know her as the amazingly-talented Tori Amos. Tori has made her way into the minds and souls of all who hear her mesmerizing and entrancing music. Throughout her entire career she has released a total of twenty various albums, and has sold an astounding twelve-million-plus records. I first heard about this true songstress when I was twelve years old, and I was walking by the television and Tori was making an appearance on a late night show. After hearing her music, I was instantly infatuated with her. Although, every single song in which Tori writes and performs stands on its own as a complete work-of-art, there are ten songs which stand above all of the rest.

The first song comes from her album "Boys for Pele." It is the song "Marianne." This particular song starts with a beautiful melody from a single piano and then the velvet voice of Tori escalades in. However, the main reason why this particular song "strikes-a-chord" with myself is not particularly because of the usual "hooks" or "melodies" it is the simplistic nature that Tori takes the true meaning of the song and then does not make the listener wait to hear the main plot. As in most songs, the listener must wait at least a minute - which in music time, is quite a length - however, after several lines, she begins singing the chorus,

"And they said Marianne killed herself,
And I said not a chance…why why why did
She crawl down in the old
Deep ravine…"
