 to believe.

The reality of it is that a lot of people, not just celebrities, make sex tapes on a fairly regular basis. For some couples it allows for a sense of exhibitionism without too much risk actually being involved. For others it's just a one time experiment into the taboo.

But why do we hear about so many celebrities being caught with sex tapes?

Precisely the same reason we hear about celebrity DUIs, drug charges, disorderly conduct and feuds.

It's because of their high social status. People love celebrities. That's no secret. Most people would be hard pressed to honestly say that they don't enjoy hearing celebrity gossip. For some it's out of genuine interest and curiosity for their favorite celebs. Others simply like seeing the stars fall.

In my humble opinion, it's not that celebrities create more sex tapes, they're just caught and exposed more often. With the possibility of big money from sales the pressure to expose something like that runs high. Mass media yellow news publications will pay big money for an expose. Dirt draws. Sex tape scandals sell magazines, newspapers and draw viewers to television spots.

Whether or not it's actually the celebrity is secondary to the rumor that it could be them.

But when it is the celebrities why do they do it?

I'm willing to bet that celebrities make sex tapes for the same reasons that anyone else does. A desire for exhibitionism. Or maybe a jaunt into the world of the riske. Sometimes it may even be to create a lasting memory of the encounter.

There are other reasons. Publicity for one. Some celebs feed off of it and subscribe to the old adage that, "any publicity is good publicity." Often times the people who do this aren't highly held celebrities to begin with, only wanting to further their own fame through whatever means are necessary.
