We live in a divided world rife with bigotry and fanaticism, as religious groups war with one another, creating an extremism that has now reached the shores of America, with a major division among eaters of fries made by McDonalds and Burger King. The prejudice we observe in those who extol the french fries produced by McDonalds over those made by Burger King is highly disturbing.
It's alarming that we have such ingrained ideologies in modern society where people in the two camps cannot simply agree to differ.
Instead we have mud-slinging in both directions, with McDonalds supporters calling Burger King fries, pale imitations of the real thing and Burger King adherents claiming McDonalds fries are to greasy.
When will this childish, yet radical behavior give way to reason? When will these extremists learn that french fries are a matter of personal choice?
People have long known there are two subjects you should never discuss for fear of causing division. Yes that's right. Politics and french fries.
Just because someone is raised in a family who have always eaten McDonalds fries doesn't give them the right to downgrade the taste of others. Both fast food outlets are meccas in the french fries arena with a few other minorities like Wendys also favored by some.
When people become fanatical about their taste in french fries, it can lead to all kinds of problems, creating rifts that are never healed.
We see the same disturbing trend in the less important area of religion. The bigotry of Catholic versus Protestant, Sunni and Shiite, Tutsi and Hutu, are all examples of where bigotry can lead.
The crisis has now spread to America with factions developing who have become unbalanced in upholding their preference for french fries.
Can McDonalds and Burger King devotees ever live together in peace? Could we ever envision a day when they will happily share ketchup together? Or will they continue to hurl mayonnaise at one another in a vain attempt for superiority.
