While the 2008 elections continue to progress, I have seen many people say, "My vote does not count!" Your vote does matter, especially if you know what to do with the vote. If you honestly believe that your vote does not matter I would ask that you attempt to do research on how the two party political system works. In this article, I will give you reasons and explanations as to why your vote does matter.

The Power of Your Vote

Do you take advice from your friends? If they say they are going to vote for Hillary Clinton, does that influence you? The answer is yes! Perhaps it will not influence you enough to change your mind, but the thought that your best friend is going to vote for Clinton is stored in your mind. And if another friend comes to you later and also says that they are voting for Clinton, that too will be stored in your mind, and perhaps you may begin to doubt whether your are making the right choice.

Not only do your friends have influence over your decision you also have influence over their decision. When the day comes when you drive to the polls and you announce to all of your friends "I am voting for John McCain!" your friends will listen. Perhaps it may be a good idea to offer to drive your friends to the polls with you.

Many people in this nation actually do not have an opinion at all and do not vote. However, with a few words you can convince them to vote, because it is the right thing to do, and vote for your candidate. Your 1 vote may become 5!

Putting More Power behind Your Vote

Have you ever thought about volunteering and helping in a candidate's campaign. When you help in campaign, chances are putting out fliers and calling people and telling them to support the candidate will not greatly influence the outcome. However, all of your friends and family that see that you are spending several hours every week helping in a campaign will be greatly influenced by your motivation. If you are willing to sacrifice your time for a candidate, that candidate must have some value. I know I take the advice of my friends and family.

Until the electoral college is dismantled our voting system will never truly work.
