Five years committed to one bank is a record for most people. Today, it is very hard to find a bank one can commit to in a long term manner to handle one's most personal possessions: money. Despite my five-year commitment to a once amazing financial institution, PNC Bank has failed me numerous times in the past year.

When I opened my account five years ago in New Jersey, I was so impressed by the bank hours, convenience, online banking, and generally wonderful customer service. Like every good college student, I had a few NSF's, and they took great care of me and helped me through some financial difficulties.

In the past two years however, after telling numerous friends and family about my wonderful banking experiences, I have been duped. Miscellaneous unauthorized charges, hours upon hours of customer service phone calls, and a long waiting list of unavailable funds have made me an unhappy customer.

Having worked in customer service for many years, I find I am a bit less tolerant of bad customer service. Despite this, I feel as though I have given PNC Bank many opportunities to make good on their claim of taking great care of their customers.

In the past two months alone, I have had to deal with miscellaneous charges that were imposed by my bank without my authorization as well as deposited funds being reversed due not making it to my home bank in time. I was told at one point I would have to close down my New Jersey account and re-open one on my hometown just to make sure I would have my funds more readily available. My first thoughts were: If I'm closing an account with you, I'm certainly not re-opening another account with you.

No national bank should tell their customers that despite the fact they have been in this "new" location for the past 4.5 years since opening the account, that they need to close their original account to more convenience the bank by having their funds deposited on time. This is simply bad customer service and not customer service at all; It is merely bank service.

Good Luck with your new bank. Most likely the same will happen to you there.
