Way back in 1810, when Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese, he thought it would be a good idea to throw a giant street party. He was right. They party has been celebrated almost every year since, with time off only for wars. The history of Mount Angel, Oregon goes back just as far. It was settled by Germans in the 1800's Today Mount Angel, Oregon is a town of just under 4,000 people and the German heritage is still strong What better place to have an Oktoberfest and experience small town America at the same time. Mount Angel is in the north/west portion of Oregon, just south of Portland and just a short distance north of Salem. An Oktoberfest has been held in Mount Angel, Oregon since 1966 and it has been named the best folk festival in Oregon.
