The Lindsay Lohan Fascination with Marilyn Monroe: Great Art and Eerie Parallels

Anybody who's ever seen complete collections of Marilyn Monroe's photographic canon (and subsequently followed the wild exploits of Lindsay Lohan) will notice that Lohan has copied several of Marilyn Monroe's famous photography sessions from her final year alive in 1962. The recent Lohan/Bert Stern Marilyn Monroe re-creation shoot in New York Magazine is the most risqué of any of the others...if eerily accurate in copy. But one of the most haunting was perhaps a Lohan re-creation of Marilyn's VERY final photographic session with celebrity photographer George Barris just a week before MM's death. Monroe's original takes were taken on Malibu beach with her wearing a famous patterned tan sweater that's since been sold in a Marilyn Monroe estate-sponsored auction in recent years. What's interesting is that Lindsay Lohan re-created those beach shots on the very same Malibu beach back in 2005, wearing a replica of the same sweater--and setting a slightly eerie pattern of Lindsay following every footstep of Marilyn Monroe for the last several years.

The first time I noticed Lindsay Lohan's fascinating with Monroe was when seeing a paparazzi pic about four years ago (what a shocker there) showing Lohan visiting an L.A. art gallery featuring Marilyn pop art. I don't recall what the exhibit was, but a very telling picture of Lindsay admiring a giant portrait of Marilyn gave away LL's attraction to the subject. Seeing the giant face of Marilyn on there almost made me imagine Marilyn channeling Lindsay and giving her advice on what to do and what not to do. And then I thought to myself that if such a thing happened, it'd possibly be a false voice trying to mislead. Well, anybody following the path of Marilyn's life today in Hollywood would probably end up on a rocky road--at least in someone's personal life.
