Brown Barge Middle School Principal in Pensacola, Fl. Inexplicably Goes Ballistic During Parent Conference

Raising the Question is She Too Unstable to Hold Such a Vitally Important Role in the Education of Pensacola Children

At 1:00 PM on January 28, 2008 my wife and I met with the Patrician Kerrigan, Principal, and Brent Brummet, Assistant Principal of Brown Barge Middle School to discuss problems our son was having there. He had gone from straight A's and loving school and being
Brown Barge Middle School Principal in Pensacola, Fl. Inexplicably Goes Ballistic During Parent Conference
Student of the Year of his school in fifth grade to getting zeros on assignments and hating school. His self-esteem had been shot and he stated to us that he'd been made to feel as though he wasn't smart enough to be at this school. Our son placed in the 98th percentile on national standardized testing prior to entering Brown Barge Middle School and has excelled in the Program for Academically Talented Students since he first entered elementary school. In fact, the only day he didn't dread school was Wednesdays when he in the PATS classes not taught by his Brown Barge teachers. Along with the fact that his grades and comments from teachers at PATS were in direct contrast to those he received at Brown Barge Middle School, we became convinced the problem was with the school.

I think the 3 people under "timothy sexton's" comment's are the same people because they become dyslexic on the same words. And, she probably cracked because we made her psycho.

Try reading the whole article next time. You'll find that my kid isn't there. He's at a better school, getting attention from teachers who don't confuse him with the troublemaker he sits next to and who don't lose his grades. He's winning awards instead of being saddled on a losing robot wars team that didn't even ask for his input. Maybe reading comprehension is not what it should be at BBMS?

Tim, you seem to be the one all over the internet ranting about how crappy ECSD is. And it is. But wow, dude, you are everywhere. And I don't mean that as a compliment. BBMS was nothing gret. The approach is different with an unconventional curriculum that works. Kerrigan is looney and needs to be replaced. But I don't think I've even heard of a BBMS kid not loving it. The teachers are amazing and are very experienced. You want an explanation of BBMS?! Did you not go to the introductory meetings for new students?! They explain everything about them! Open houses do the same. If your child isn't happy, then obviously he needs a traditional school setting and you can switch him back to that. I don't understand why he even goes there. BBMS is a school you apply to, as in it's voluntary. If your son isn't happy, why in the world are you keeping him there?! You've talked to admin, etc. and you have only negative things to say. So go to a different school. Also, you constantly badmouth

When I went to BBMS, bveryone at the school believed that Doc. K was crazy. She attacked my friend for wearing a trenchcoat in the winter, claiming it was against school policy. It wasn't. She also claimed he had said stupid things that would get him expelled. (Example: "Death by Orgasm") He never said anything like that. She gets grudges on people for no reason and lashes out at them. As for Mr. Brummet, I no one had problems with him. (He was usually very agreeable.) Also, most teachers that work there ARE very experienced and well-trained, as apposed to your assumption based on a few. Other than that, I believe completely that Doc. K would flip out like that.

I understnad what you say about Doctor K. I agree that she is very... uneasy but I dont like how you degrade our school I find it amazing and the kids there are very smart im about to go off and attend one of the best highschols in america becuase of BBMS. Mrs. Barber is an amazing teacher also ive had her for 5 year (back in elementary) she gets sturn when you dont listen and understand the direction but shes only this way to people WHO ARE KNOWN TO CAUSE TROUBLE shes one of my favorite teachers and all my best grades come from her. My favorite teacher there once lost an assignment of mine its happned before becasue of all the extra things we do here things get messed up from time too time WERE HUMAN IT HAPPENS. She understood I had turned it in and so she didnt count the grade. There are some teachers in the school that no one likes and some better than others but what school isnt like this. Ive had more fun here then any other school and have gotten better grades then other sch

She is definitely unstable if this is the way that she reacts to parents. As an educator she has a certain level of intelligence that should be used during meetings as well as keeping her temper in check. The lady is bonafide looney tunes and she be thoroughly checked out by the school board.

You obviously did the better thing for your son by moving him to another school. Sounds like Brown Barge Middle School is plagued with immaturity and incompetence which will not serve it's students well. Your son is fortunate to have parents who care enough to show this level of interest and take action. Good job Tim.

Tim, this type of story is unfortunately all too common, all across this country. I read a lot of articles written by home schoolers who have withdrawn their children from public schools because of outrageous behavior of school personnel. My kids are in public school and I have seen some pretty outrageous things happen to my kids and others. Brown Barge can't be too worried about its test scores if it's willing to ditch such a smart kid rather than work with him to help him maximize his potential. I am glad to hear you found a better place for your son.

Sorry to hear about this. This is a ridiculous way for a school administrator to treat people.
