Memoirs of a Toxic Friendship

This is a modification of the original "What I Like & Dislike Like About You" list that I gave to my former toxic friend. The original list contained a combination of 41 likes and dislikes because I was 41 years old at the time I wrote the original list. I used it as sort of a plea to my former toxic friend. My goal was to try and get her to understand how her toxic behaviors were having a negative impact on our so called friendship. She thought the list was a big joke. She literally laughed at it when I asked if she could distinguish the likes from the dislikes because they were written on the original list in random order. She did not take my list or concerns seriously even as my list of dislikes continued to increase. However; the list of likes decreased rather quickly as I got to see the other side of my former toxic friend; the dark side. By the way, it was not unusual for my friend to receive a written correspondence from me; it was just another form of communication between the two of us.

My list or concerns were not taken seriously and needless to say, 2 years later I walked away from the friendship with only one regret. I was not obedient to God's revelation to end the friendship long before I actually did. He revealed to me very early on that my former toxic friend had some serious issues; the warning signs were very apparent but I chose to ignore them because she seemed like such a nice person. That's how she hooked her victims; a charmer if you will. At any rate, I figured what the heck; I can help her with many of her problems and that is exactly what I did. After all, isn't that what friends are for to help each other out. True, but she took it to the extreme. It had gotten so bad that she referred to me as the "Problem Solver". Yes, I was being used to solve all of her problems then I slowly began to realize as the drama progressed with my former toxic friend, I was just her next victim. Not a true friend at all.

At any rate, I keep this list as well as others as a reminder of the chaos a toxic friend can cause in your life.
