An Easter egg hunt is a lot of fun for kids of all ages, and it's the highlight of the Easter celebration in many homes and at many Easter gatherings. Each year, my sister and I host an Easter egg hunt, and we've thought of a number of ways to make our annual Easter egg hunt unique and more fun for our kids. Our Easter hunt has become an anticipated tradition, and each year we do our best to make wonderful memories for our kids.

Hollow Egg Surprises

Eggs are more expensive than ever this year, and if you want to use real eggs for your hunt but don't want them to go to waste, consider making hollow eggs that can be filled with tiny rolled messages and confetti. Each person who blows out the contents of the raw eggs can use them to make personal omelets. Nothing goes to waste, and the unbroken eggshells can be used for a fun and unique Easter egg hunt.

Begin by poking a small hole in one end of a raw egg with a large needle. Poke a larger hole in the other end of the egg, and gently move it around inside so the yolk is pierced and easier to blow out. A large embroidery needle or a leather needle works well for this project.

Next blow through the small hole in an effort to force the contents out through the larger hole. It takes quite a bit of force, and the larger the holes are, the easier it is to blow out the contents. Some people use a bulb syringe or a basketball pump, but I always use lung power. If you choose to blow out the egg using your mouth, use caution since raw eggs can contain salmonella bacteria.

Once the egg is empty, rinse it out with hot water, and allow it to dry completely. When the eggs are completely dry, they can be dipped in dye and filled with confetti and small rolled up papers for specific prizes. They're fun to find, smash, and exchange for candy, toys, and other small gifts after the Easter egg hunt.

I love your idea of color coding. What a great way to teach the youngest in the group about color too!

Great ideas! :-) My grandparents finally stopped doing Easter Egg Hunts a year or two ago, and I'm 23 (the youngest grandkid will be 20). My grandparenst always had specific eggs with your name in it, but you didn't know which eggs were yours until you opened them.
