An Open Letter to Ron Paul
Accept the Libertarian Party's Presidential Nomination...Please
We share the same first name, but we share much more than that.
We share a common respect for the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the singular power of the individual, peace, freedom and liberty.
We share a common fear that a spendthrift federal government bent on desperately maintaining a multi-front war by printing worthless paper money will leave our beloved nation in ruination, bankrupt, consumed by anarchy and poverty, so far lost that it will never find its way back to our Constitution.
You have started something within the Republican Party that I hope will live, thrive and grow long after you have left public service. I hope that the Republican Liberty Caucus will become the most influential wing of the GOP. I hope a movement of 'Paulite Republicans' sweeps to the top of the party leadership. I hope libertarian Republicans dominate the municipal, county, state and national elections in 2010. I hope your name becomes as revered within the Republican Party as that of Ronald Reagan.
You have given me hope that I may someday live in freedom before I reach your age. You have given me hope that America will someday wake up and fulfill its true destiny, to be a shining beacon of freedom and liberty for the world to emulate. You have awakened a hope in me that I have not felt since 1980, when Libertarian Ed Clark made a younger me realize that we had limited time to save our country.
But it's obvious that the Republicans are going to nominate John McCain, the most liberal, big-government Republican since Nelson Rockefeller (except maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger). It's obvious that the Democrats are going to nominate either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. Are these the choices you are going to leave us with come November? Tell me it's not so.
The Libertarian Party's nomination in May in Denver is yours for the taking, yours for the asking. It's the only way to continue what you have started. It's the only way to give the millions of people who support you the chance to vote for you in November. It's the only way to prove to the American public that the libertarian movement is here to stay, not a flash in the pan.
