I've had four vacuums in the last five years. One I moved in with, before I found and adopted my cute little beagle. The onset of spring revealed a problem: pet hair that was not easily vacuumed up, was hard to clean out of the filter, and then clogged the vacuum and ruined its suction. Two others had the same problems. One had won an award for "Consumers' digest." I had assumed that was the same as Consumer Reports but apparently not. I gave it to a friend with no dog, and they are happy with it.

Shopping for vacuums is so confusing! Does price matter? There is everything from $49.99 to $490.00 and up. I didn't feel like buying a "designer" vacuum. you can't wear it anywhere! So I went to Wal Mart and looked at everything. There was one vacuum labeled "Purpose: Pet Perfect" which said it was designed for pet hair. Could this be true? Others stated they were "similar to Dyson" (a "designer" type brand). But it also had the coveted Consumer Digest tag. Nevermind. I put the Pet Perfect by Dirt Devil in my cart.

Then I got to the end of the aisle and saw a $49.99 special .. I hesitated. I spotted a Wal Mart employee and asked her what she thought. She said a lot of vacuums can't handle pet hair very well. She recommended I get he one designed for pets. I took it home and put it together. It seemed too plastic-made and flimsy. I decided to ask my cleaning lady what she thought before I used it. She used it and loved it!

It has an electrostatic pet hair brush, with an electric roller, that works very well on upholstered furniture. It does a great job on carpets, and also can handle wood floors. It has a cleaning wand and crevice tool, as well as a special dust brush.

But the real charm is cleaning all the pet hair out when you empty the dirt container. Other vacuums have soft liners in the container that the pet hair clings to, holding in dirt. This one is clear and smooth, comes away from the handle easily, and opens out with another clean release dirt lever so you just hold it over the wastebasket and it some out without any effort.

Takeaways
  • Vacuum handles pet hair
  • Easy to empty and clean
  • Has special tools and attachment
