Many people are concerned about how much a wedding costs these days. Indeed, saving money on a wedding is becoming increasingly important to many couples. The good news is that there are several ways to save money on a wedding. One of those ways is to cut back on how much you spend on wedding invitations. Here are a few ways that you can save money on your wedding by getting creative with your invitations:

Buy them at the store

Instead of having them printed professionally and personalized, buy your wedding invitations at the store. This also works with online stores. You can find very pretty invitations in most stores, and you can use them more as "save the date" invitations. This works especially well if you are planning to have a more casual and laid back wedding. And if you buy them from an online vendor, you can usually personalize them -- without the high cost of custom wedding invitation print jobs.

Make them yourself

My sister-in-law made her wedding invitations herself using desktop publishing software. This software usually runs between $20 and $100, depending on how many templates you want, and how the templates look. Usually, wedding invitations are just some of the templates offered. You can use stationery desktop publishing software to make birthday cards, party invitations and other types of cards. This means that you will get continued use from the software, even after the wedding is over.

Another way to make your own wedding invitations is to do them by hand. Stamping and card-making classes are often available, and you can learn to make attractive cards (including wedding invitations!) yourself. I would only do this if you are planning an intimate wedding with fewer guests.

A lot of great ideas. It says something about the age that we live in that we would consider sending electronic wedding invitations!
