Los Angeles, California, February 24, 2008 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spread the love around tonight. The film with the most number of Oscars is No Country For Old Men, with four Academy Awards. The next film to receive the most Academy Awards is The Bourne Ultimatum with three Oscars. There Will Be Blood and La Vie En Rose both received two Oscars each. For the most part, the rest of the Academy Awards honored a diverse array of nominated films.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted the 80th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night at the Kodak Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center. It was broadcast live on ABC at 8pm EST/5pm PST on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Academy Awards Ceremony Highlights

No Country For Old Men

Producer of No Country for Old Men, Scott Rudin accepted the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture of the Year for No Country For Old Men.

"I want to thank my friend, Sydney Pollack, who taught me that with the responsibility -- with the opportunity to make movies comes the responsibility of making them good. This for him," Scott Rudin said. (Academy Awards Live Broadcast)

The Coen Brothers accepted their Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and the duo played off each other humorously, and in sync.

"Thank you very much for this. Thank you, Scott Rudin for bringing us this novel and giving us the opportunity to make the movie. I think whatever success we've had in this area has been entirely attributable to how selective we are. We've only adapted Homer and Cormac McCarthy, so thank you," Joel Coen said. "We, uh and thank you very much," Ethan Coen said and he was met with chuckles from the audience of celebrities.

The Coens kept up their act when they accepted Achievement in Directing.

"I don't have a lot to add to what I said earlier. Thank you," Ethan Coen said.

I was expecting No Country For Old Men to be the big winner. I'm a little disappointed that Juno didn't take any though (besides original screenplay). Great article!

Good report. I only saw the end of the show, so this fills me in nicely.

Connie is working overtime, heaping praise and criticism up and down the chain.

Very nice, complete analysis. My question: why is it buried so far down, below others who are misspelling Jon Stewart's name as "John" and referencing "2 unnamed gentlemen" (when they are only among the hottest stars working in Hollywood right now)? Shouldn't the cream rise to the top? Since an Associated Content person has actually commented on your excellent job, why not PUT IT ON TOP? For myself, I had a big party here at the house, as per every year, and was typing mine up immediately following the Oscars with guests impatiently waiting,. It didn't matter. AC didn't put it up at all. Again: if this is (arguably) the "best" of those submitted (and it is certainly more complete than my own), why not put it up HIGHER on the food chain? Congrats on your hard work.

Fantastic recap. I thought all the winners were well deserved. I was so excited for Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova to win Best Song for "Falling Slowly" from the movie "Once." I wrote an article about meeting them at Sundance Film Festival. What a lovely couple - and to win against 3 songs from Enchanted - WOW! Congrats to all the winners.

Pam - Excellent and nicely detailed write-up. I happened to see the awards and was glad to see Tilda Swanson get her moment in the limelight (she looked stunned to get the award, didn't she?) but I wasn't crazy about that one-armed dress, looked a bit half-finished to me, lol. It was very classy of Jon Stewart to bring Marketa back out to say her thanks. I have seen the movie Once and I was rooting for that couple to win an award. They are adorable!
