For a while I had been wanting to stop buying cereal and instead make my own granola. If I bought the ingredients in bulk I knew it would save me money, and I loved the idea of knowing exactly what was in my morning breakfast cereal bowl and the conditions in which it was prepared. For many months now I have been happily making granola and have not bought any boxed cereal of any kind. Although I don't pretend to be an expert on granola making along the way of making granola on a regular basis I have picked up some tips on how to prepare it and thought that I would share them with anyone who also was interested in making granola.

My first tip is an obvious one, find a recipe that you really like. If you make your first batch of granola and you don't like it, rather than throwing in the towel in making granola search for another recipe that appeals to you and try it out. I researched a couple and from there I was able to concoct one that I works great for me. Here is the recipe that I use, Honey Walnut Granola Recipe. Now I am not saying that this recipe is going to be right for everyone, I just thought I would share it though for anyone who was curious.

Another tip that I have found is when ever you have a recipe for granola that calls for honey and oil to be mixed together, you should mix them very well. You can clearly tell when the two ingredients are separated, before you mix them in with the dry ingredients make sure that they have become one liquid, and mixing the liquid throughout the dry ingredients is also very important. I have found that using a large bowl really helps with doing this and not making too much at one time.

Takeaways
  • My first tip is an obvious one, find a recipe that you really like.
  • Another tip is that whenever you have a recipe for granola that calls for honey & oil mix them well.
  • It is important to stir your granola once you pull it out of the oven and to let it cool before you
Did You Know?
If your oven takes a while to cool off and your cooked granola is sitting on top of it, the granola will continue to cook. This will turn your batch of granola into one giant granola bar.
