Valerie Bertinelli's Recent 40 Pound Weight Loss

Valerie Bertinelli was America's sweetheart, with a wholesome girl-next-door image when she starred in the 1980's sitcom, "One Day at a Time" for nine years. Valerie appeared on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and "The View" this week to open up about her recent 40 pound weight loss, Jenny Craig, marriage to Eddie Van Halen, divorce, drug abuse, infidelity and her new book "Losing It: Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time."

Valerie has always been cute. She was cute in her coming of age years on "One Day at a Time." She was cute as the chubby angel in "Touched by an Angel." Valerie is cute, and stunning, after her 40 pound weight loss.

Amazing was her revelation that she felt fat next to co-star Mackenzie Phillips. Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips of the 1960's group, "The Mamas and the Papas." Mackenzie Phillips, always rail thin, had drug and alcohol addictions which caused behavior that resulted in her firing from "One Day at a Time." I think that most people considered Valerie the cute one of the two actresses that played sisters. Valerie saw herself as the fat one.

Many people that were scratching their heads in wonder when America's Sweetheart married rocker Eddie Van Halen. The good girl/bad boy marriage seemed like a mismatch from the start, but their marriage lasted twenty years. It makes sense that a marriage to a rock star, would be tumultuous. Rock stars are notorious for drug abuse, alcohol abuse and sex with groupies. Eddie Van Halen has been in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse more than once. Valerie Bertinelli met Eddie Van Halen at a concert that she attended with her brothers. She said it was love at first sight, but was upset when it took him three days to call. Eddie was a gentlemen when they were dating, even insisting on separate bedrooms. On the Oprah Show, Valerie was shy about talking about the first time the couple made love, but writes about the sexual experience in her book.
