Allow yourself to feel the pain. The first thing many people do after a split, both men and women, is to attempt to numb out the pain. Some people use drugs and alcohol to do this which can be dangerous. Alcohol is a depressant and will do nothing to really make you feel anything but hungover. Feeling the hurt left behind by the demise of a relationship stinks but it's incredibly necessary for the healing process. Take some alone time or curl up with chocolates and a favourite movie for a good cry fest.
Enjoy a night out. At first this may seem near impossible but once you get out there with a few good friends it isn't so bad. It's important to remind yourself how much more is out there. The world is waiting at your fingertips. When a relationship spirals out of our control in a downward crash course it can become quite intimidating to get out and date again. Ease into it but don't sit at home. Recruit your pals and spend some girls only time, or men only, whichever it may be.
It's perfectly natural to be angry and even confused. For days you may find yourself asking where it all went wrong and why. Don't fall into a self blaming routine or pick it apart too much. There is no using replaying everything in your head trying to find that ah ha moment where it all fell to pieces. Get angry, cry and throw things, preferably unbreakable things. But when it's over, pick yourself up and prepare to face life again. This can be a learning experience that serves only to make you stronger. Why rob yourself of that?
