For some time me and my family were eager to start eating fruit more often, especially organic fruit which we recently 100% switched over to. As silly as it may sound I thought it was a good idea to start doing things to encourage everyone, including myself, to eat more fruit. Here are some of the things that I have been doing to feed my family fruit.

One of the first things that we did was tried to have a variety on hand, for instance rather than just having the choice of an apple we try and keep bananas, oranges and apples on hand at all times. That way if someone thinks about eating a piece of fruit they will have some options. Another thing that I took upon myself was having a fruit bowl. When we buy fruit I take the stickers off of all of the fruit and wash them. That way all that someone has to do is pick the piece of fruit up and take a bite. With busy lives people tend to be "out of sight, out of mind" thinkers, so having a fruit bowl was great because I could keep it on the kitchen counter or table all day long with the delicious fruit in plain site and then at the end of the day put it in the fridge.

I made a point to encourage the use of fruits in with the foods we were eating already. An example would be adding fruit to cereal or oatmeal or even on the side of other dishes that it would go good with. I particularly took a liking to adding banana slices to my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Working in fruit to your breakfast, lunch, dinner, like in a fruit salad and even dessert was a great way to make sure everyone was getting what they needed. Remember fruit is sweet and to young children and many adults it is the perfect tasting dessert regardless that it is healthy for you.

We also stopped getting juice, so if I feel like I want to drink some juice i will just throw a bunch of different fruits together and blend them up for a completely 100% juice, well ok sometimes I'll add a tiny bit of water. Finally something that I made a point of doing was having a once a day rule where you eat a whole piece of fruit for a snack.

Great article. I am great when it comes to eating my vegi's but have trouble getting enough fruits.
