Most people wouldn't believe that someone born in 1983 would have the slightest interest in a singer from 1971, but you'd be wrong. As far as I'm concerned, Elton John is one of the most talented, influential musicians of his time. His songs have endured the generations like few other artists have. Despite his controversial twists and turns of his life, you can't debate the depth and power of his music. Narrowing down the top songs of his four decade career is no easy task, but here is the best that I believe he had to offer.

10 Candle in the Wind

I can't think of a more romantic song by Elton John. A special tribute to a classic woman and a classic time in America. And the 1997 tribute to Princess Diana was just as beautiful and uplifting.

9 Answer in the Sky

This is one of the most inspirational songs I know. It's about power and perseverance. From "Peachtree Road," this song deals with the struggles all people face, and not giving up on your dreams.

8 Something About the Way You look Tonight

From the "Big Picture" album, this song, along with nearly all the songs on that album, is a beautiful ballad of love, desire, and fate.

7 Don't Go Breakin My Heart

This classic duet was the first Elton John song I ever heard. I was eight years old and watching a Minnie Mouse special on Disney. After that I jumped at the radio dial every time I heard it. It was first featured on "Rock of the Westies" sung with KiKi Dee. He has since sung the song with many other famous women including Miss Piggy and RuPaul.

6 Can You Feel the Love Tonight?

I went to see The Lion King just because of this song. It remains my favorite Disney movie of all time and one of the most memorable love songs of my childhood.

5 Crocodile Rock

The ultimate in love ballads. From the "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" album this is another fun song from my childhood. The words just inspire nostalgia about young love and fast cars. This is something anyone who's ever been a teenager can relate to no matter what generation.
