The AL Central is a division that does not get the attention of the AL East or other power divisions. Still, the AL Central is where some of October's biggest teams tend to come from. Chicago's World Series win in 2005, Detroit's AL title in 2006, and Cleveland's near AL title in 2007 are proof of that. All of those teams came almost out of nowhere to do big things, so the AL Central is also a paradise for teams to rise from the ashes- except for Kansas City. This year, the AL Central has a team that wants to take the next step, two teams that want to take that step again, and two more teams trying desperately to come out of nowhere. Here are the prospects for these five AL Central teams.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers came off their World Series appearance in 2006 and started off very strong. However, they tapered off and were soon surpassed in the AL Central by the Indians. The Tigers took drastic steps to ensure that would not happen again, as they became one of the off season's biggest movers. Dontrelle Willis, who won a World Series with the Marlins as a rookie, is now part of the Tigers impressive pitching staff. Miguel Cabrera, one of the youngest and best hitters in the game, gives the Tigers added batting power. Edgar Renteria also came on board to give the Tigers veteran leadership. The Tigers also have young and powerful arms in Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman, and Kenny Rogers is still looking to throw heat. With all these moves, the Tigers are expected to win the AL Central, and become the top threat to the Yankees/Red Sox duo.

I'm certainly not convinced Edgar Renteria will be a plus. He is a National League guy for some reason.

Man the Indians are in the same position we, the Tigers, were in last season. We just had come off an amazing season where we made the World Series after beating the division favorite White Sox into the playoffs. Then last season happened. Some of our best contributers from 2006 were hurt like Kenny Rogers and Zumaya. We lost close games we had won the year before. It happens to every team, the question is are the Indians good enough to overcome those problems? I don't think they are.
