Tool has been around since 1990, and consists of some of the world's most talented musicians to date. The members are Danny Carey (drummer), Justin Chancellor (bassist), Adam Jones (guitarist) and Maynard James Keenan (vocalist). The band's musical style is more artistic in nature than your mainstream pop-culture jams. The members' intellects match their musical prowess as they continue to write outstanding works. So far, they have produced 5 albums since 1990; Opiate, Undertow, Ænima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days.

Although they have produced many noteworthy titles, here are what I consider to be their top ten songs (in alphabetical order), based on skill, philosophy, and just plain rock-quality.

1. Ænima
Rebirth of life. End of all that is impure and unnecessary. This song professes the want and need of a new beginning, confessing that all we live within today is just a "3-ring circus". Claims of needing the world and society as we know it today to be destroyed in search for a more pure, and natural life, gives the listener a chance to hear the expressions of their own inner soul, that longs for a change. The song consists of unique sounds, and setups, guaranteed something new for the first time Tool listener.

2. Die Eier Von Satan
This makes the list even though it is more of an interlude than a song because of the underlying message within the piece. It's a little over two minutes of extremely different industrial sounds overlaid with a German speaking announcer, seemingly giving orders to a large crowd, sounds of which resembling what you would picture to be a Nazi rally. Under further examination and research however, you will find that the words spoken are not those of hate and loathing, but instead, it is only a baking recipe for brownies... the good kind. The idea is to show that initial face-value judging of people or ideas are sometimes not accurate. You would think of hate and violence, when it is nothing more than baking tips.

Takeaways
  • Exposure to insightful music
  • Ten soulful descriptions
  • New way to gain alternate perspectives
