Conservative voters are talking running mates today. The media is buzzing with gossip touting Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the frontrunner to be John McCain's vice presidential running mate on the Republican ticket come November. With McCain towing the middle of the line on many issues conservatives hold dear, Palin's addition to the ballot has the potential to unite more conservative voters behind the Republican ticket when election day arrives.

Who is Governor Sarah Palin?

Sarah Palin is the first female governor of Alaska, where she took office in 2006. According to her official website, "her top priorities have been resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development." She's a mother of four, an Alaska resident, and a member of the NRA, a marathon runner and outdoorsman, and was the chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Many have referred to Palin as a force to be reckoned with among Republicans.

What would Governor Sarah Palin bring to John McCain's Presidential bid?

Governor Palin has the potential to bring a great deal to McCain bid for the White House come November. Substantially younger than McCain, her addition to the ballot would encourage conservatives concerned about McCain's age. In addition, her strong stances on some issues near and dear to Republicans helps garner conservatives that aren't 100% behind McCain yet. According to On the Issues, Governor Palin is pro-life, believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman, is for capital punishment, and supports the right to bear arms. Her strong stance on family values and her own family will sway conservative voters otherwise undecided.

Could Governor Sarah Palin sway liberal voters, as well?

Palin is an excellent choice for VP. Obama's bid would be over if McCain chose Palin. Actually, Obama's bid is almost over anyway. She is smart, conservative, progressive and a hard worker. She would be an excellent choice.

"Gov. Palin is one of conservatism's own, and would be the first female vice president. She's young being only 44 (two years behind Senator Obama), she is wildly known to despise government corruption. She defeated a horribly entrenched and corrupt Republican political machine in Alaska. She has a son in the U.S. military. She's strongly pro-life, belonging, in fact, to Feminists for Life."

Go Sarah! . . . I have heard and seen enough . . . Alaska is a tough frontier . . . and those soft urban cities in the NE need some tough love. . . . McCain could make other picks, but Sarah should be in the top three!

Sarah Palin is liberal folks! Moreover, she is incompetent and has other important duties these days. Taking care of her infant will be a challenge! I lived in the 1100 person city she was a mayor of. How? don't ask.. The worst mayor in the history of Wasilla. I live in Alaska and we are doomed as a state. She raise a surplus for the government by taxing 400% on private business. No investment in the state for the future. And you people think she's vp material? Stop already....GOD help US Sarah Palin RESIGN- Your family needs you -Alaska, the country and the world DO NOT

Sarah Palin would balance out an otherwise Liberal campaign. Other than Fred Thompson, she is the only TRUE conservative to even come close to being elected to Washington. Tell me more!

Sare would be a much better running mate for Ron Paul. The are much more closely matched in ethics and constitutionalism. And, as a bounus, he can deliver her baby for her. Wow, that breeds all kind of thoughts..... McHate is THE WRONG PERSON and you all KNOW it.

Her pregnancy wouldn't have mattered, Kelly. Look at the trouble Hillary has among the women in her own party. For some reason, there is a sizable faction of voting women who will not vote for or are very wary of voting for a woman for higher offices. Now, think conservative. Also, add to that the fact that much of the conservative base is female. Then think of all those men who wouldn't vote for a woman if their lives depended on it. Since there is a high percentage of Republicans that are older men who think parochially about women's roles. McCain isn't going to choose someone who is going to lose him a couple million votes before they even get started. That couple million could cost him the election in November.

Of course, earlier this week Palin announced that she's 7 months pregnant with her 5th child. I suppose that marks her out as a potential running mate!

Great analysis of Sarah Palin! The only drawback is (assuming a McCain/Obama match up), McCain wouldn't be able to use the youth/inexperienced card against Obama--though she does have a stronger record than Obama who hasn't yet finished his first term in the senate. McCain/Palin could definitely offset the Hillary/female factor.

Antoher surprise in an election year where it seems hard (for me at least) to get my head wrapped around the candidates.
