Top Ten Songs by Crowded House

The band Crowded House has been my favorite band since 1986, when their best selling US single "Don't Dream It's Over" was released. Between 1986 and 1996, they recorded 4 studio albums, and in 2007 they reunited (Minus their original drummer, Paul Hester, who sadly committed suicide in 2005) and recorded another album. These are my top 10 favorite Crowded House songs:

1. Nails in My Feet

This song is just heartbreakingly lovely to me. When the music swells in the middle of the song, and Neil Finn cries "Total Surrender...." that is exactly what I want to do.

2. Don't Dream It's Over

The most popular Crowded House song in the US, it still resonates a persistent hopefulness which will always appeal to me.

3. Better Be Home Soon

This song was an anthem to me during some particularly dark times of my life. It spoke so directly to my situation at the time that it empowered me and gave me courage to do what I needed to do.

4. Into Temptation

When I was a young teenager, this song spoke to me of very adult desires, with a lush romanticism that was, and always will be, irresistible.

5. Fall at Your Feet.

This is another a gorgeous love song. It reminds me of every love story I've ever wanted to be mine.

6. Italian Plastic

This song is different from most of Crowded House's songs, and I believe that the difference lies in the fact that it was written by Paul Hester. It's a funky, fun-loving, romantic song that makes it even harder to believe that he's gone.

7. Sister Madly

Sister Madly was supposedly inspired by Neil Finn's older sister, who would have horrible nightmares and wake up in the middle of the night screaming.

8. Distant Sun

This song is another one that comforted and empowered me during some rough times. The lyric "wise enough to carry the scars without any pain" is still a personal goal for me.

9. Four Seasons in One Day

I love this song for a silly reason. It purrs along, so sweetly and melodically, and then Neil Finn slips the sh... word into the middle of the verse. The first time I heard it, that word threw me off balance and made me laugh.

10. I Walk Away
