We are all aware (well hopefully we are all aware) that St. Patrick's Day originated in Ireland. It was (and still is) a holy day set aside to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Due to the potato famine, many Irish immigrants traveled across the ocean to come to America and with them, they brought St. Patrick's Day. While St. Patrick's Day is an official holiday in Ireland, in America, its become more of a secular holiday. It's the day when Irish and 'Irish for the Day' come together and celebrate beer and parties and everything else Irish.

There are only a handful of holidays in America that are observed by the national public as a whole, these include New Years Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, The Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. Each year, St. Patrick's Day celebrations grow larger and wider, more and more people get into the Irish spirit. Because of this overwhelming public sentiment, the makers of Guinness, the most popular, and the worlds most famous, Irish Stout are publicly supporting Proposition 3-17, a national effort to officially name St. Patrick's Day as a national holiday in America.

Richard Nicholas at Diego, makers of Guinness Stout commented by saying that Guinness supports American Adults wanting to take the day to celebrate their Irish sprit. He further states that St. Patrick's Day deserves to be acknowledged along with our already observed American Holidays. Guinness believes that celebrating St. Patrick's Day goes well beyond just wearing green; when polled, many Americans stated that they celebrate by attending or participating in parades, they toast the festive day with beer and other beverages and they eat traditional Irish food such as corned beef and cabbage.

Great job! Will sign cause we can always use another holiday--I've always celebrated, but the day off would be grand.
