As a former varsity swimmer, I no longer have a team to practice with and now do my laps alone when I feel like doing a pool workout. Without a coach and other teammates to help keep track of the number of laps and split times, I found I was having difficulty knowing what I was really getting out of my workouts. I found the Digital Underwater Lap Counter and Timer for $80, but after searching the internet for awhile I was able to pick it up from walmart.com for $40. The counter works to keep track of laps, time, and calories burned during your workout.

This product helps me to get so much more out of my workout time. I am now able to follow workouts written by coaches instead of making up my own and stopping when I feel like it. I always had a lot of trouble counting my laps so I would just swim for awhile until I got tired and then take a rest. This way, I can do intervals and pyramids to increase my strength and stamina. I especially like the fact that it gives out split times. I can warm up and cool down at a reasonable pace and make sure the middle of my workout is at the speed it should be.

The lap counter and timer has a huge display face that is easy to read even while you are moving and underwater. The display face is also the button that you press when you get to the end of your lap so it is handy that it is so large. I find that I am not able to press the button and do a flip turn at the same time, but I can deal with this inconvenience for the benefits of the product. Flip turns can be practiced at the other end of the pool. It comes with a few different attachments that will allow you to affix it to different pool surfaces. For example, the suction cup attachment can be used for tiled pool walls.

The product even beeps when it starts so you can practice your reaction time. I find that it is easy to use this product. The inconvenience of pressing the button is definitely made up for by the fact that the product can keep a lap count and split times. This is very near impossible for me to keep track of in my head. I would recommend this to any swimmer who is looking to get more out of their workout.
