Oprah's Big Give is slated to debut on Sunday, March 2nd on ABC. The show's main premise is helping strangers and the idea of philanthropy, a practice Oprah herself believes in. Oprah selected 10 "everyday people," to take part in her show. Their goal, to change the lives of complete strangers.

The contestants must tackle different challenges in order to progress through the show. In the shows preview there is a hint of surprise celebrity guests , such as Jennifer Aniston, appearing on the show.

It seems, from the preview, that the show serves a two fold purpose. One, to change the lives of strangers and allow contestants to compete for good causes. And two, to encourage viewers to help others in need.

Working along the same lines as shows like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Oprah's Big Give seems to be geared toward a higher purpose. With reality television as frivolous and stagnant as it has become, this show could be the breath of fresh air that reality television viewers have been longing for.

According to Oprah.com, Nate Berkus, the featured design editor for the Oprah Winfrey Show, will be hosting the television show. A victim of the tsunami that hit Sri Lanka, Berkus says that he has had to depend on the kindness of others as well. "I was addicted to this show," Berkus says on Oprah.com.

The judges panel features Malaak Compton-Rock founder of StyleWorks, NFL Star Tony Gonzalez, and world famous chef Jamie Oliver, also known as the Naked Chef. All of the judges were selected because of their personal extensive work in the philanthropic field.

For fans of shows with a philanthropic slant, this show should be a grand slam of a series. It can almost be guaranteed that their will be more than one tear jerking moment featured on the show. Oprah's Big Give should be pleasing to the masses clamoring for more reality television as well. The competition aspect of show should prove to be more than enough excitement. With contestants traversing the United States, offering help to those in need, it seems like a surefire mash-up show.
