Craigslist is widely known throughout the United States as a great online community that consists of classifieds as well as forums and personals. This amazing site is now the second most visited site online today.

A man created Craigslist by the name of Craig Newmark. Mr. Newmark is from the San Francisco bay area and he founded craigslist in 1995. Today, craigslist is still free to most who seek to post ads, however, there are certain cities that require payment for ad placement. Some of these major cities include, San Francisco Bay, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, and Washington DC. Listings in these areas can cost between $25-$75 each to post.

Over the years craigslist gained in popularity, thus marketers jumped on the bandwagon and began to rely on this site to promote their services and products for free. Even better this free advertising began to bring larger profits for their company than other forms of paid advertising.

Online marketers began to see that they could work the system and break the posting rules that in return lead to a great deal of money being earned. The owners of craigslist now actively seek methods to prevent this type of spam from happening. As a result, the rules and methods of craigslist change daily.

This means that posters still have the same rules, but those who wish to make great amounts of money by spamming and posting in many cities, are constantly being ghosted by the site. Ghosting is the newest obstacles that posters of ads are fighting against.

When a person's ads are being "ghosted" by craigslist, the ad while being posted will be accepted, however, they never show up in the listings. This is very frustrating for marketers, as they can no longer use this system to market their products.

Many marketers claim that by using many various email accounts as well as changing their IP address every few ads, they are being able to post as they always have. Likewise, many advertisers attempt these techniques and have no success in getting their ads posted or getting them to stick once they have been posted.
