When you go to stores to buy seasonal items like decorations, you’ll pay a hefty price, but you can many of these decor items yourself. With fall comes colors of browns, yellows, oranges and tans. Fall also is represented by leaves, pine cones, gourds and similar things. Combine a selection of these elements and colors and you have great fall decor pieces for your home - at a fraction of what you would pay to buy them. Here’s a few you can try today:

1. Pick up leaves of all colors and let them dry but not to the point of being brittle. Laminate the leaves and you have beautiful and unique place mats. If you want, print out a picture of leaves fallen on the forest floor, or something seasonal, then position the leaves on the picture before laminating. If you don’t have a laminating machine you can use clear contact paper instead.

2. Gather leaves of assorted colors, pine cones, small pieces of bark, dry flowers and other woodsy items. Soak them in a scent, like vanilla or cinnamon, then drain and let dry completely - until almost brittle. You can purchase a variety of scents at a craft store or use items from your own cupboard to make the scented liquid for soaking. After it’s dried place in a clear vase and add a bow to the front.

3. Make an easy centerpiece by starting with a dinner plate. Use a saucer, a dinner plate, or even a serving platter - depending upon how large you want the centerpiece to be. Add a fall-color candle in the center of the upside-down plate and begin adding potpourri around the candle with white glue or hot glue. The potpourri you use to decorate the plate can be homemade or store bought. Add pine cones, cinnamon sticks or other dried goodies. Finish by tying a fall-theme bow around the candle.

4. Make a fall wreath by starting with wired Christmas tree branches. Choose a branch or two and wrap them together, then form into a circle. Now use hot glue to add pine cones, pieces of bark and dried flowers, cinnamon sticks and even craft items like woodsies, shaped like turkeys. Add any type of trinkets you want, until the wreath looks full, then add a fall-theme bow to the top of the wreath.
