There is no dearth of egg poachers in the market today and the only problem is to select the right one from the crowded market that comes with lot of spurious products with hollow promises. I had enough with the Fagor and Farberware Egg poachers and this time I bought the Calphalon Hard Anodiozed Nonstick Egg Poacher. Though I trusted the Calphalon, I was simply reluctant to take a risk and got the egg poacher only after doing a comprehensive research on it and getting positive feed backs from the customers. Well, this may not be a perfect egg poacher but then by far it is kind of ok and the minor flaws could easily be rectified by following some tips.

The first thing that I noticed was that the Simply Calphalon is priced at $39 and I was wondering whether is it worth to spend so much on a poacher when there are dozens of other poachers available at less than half this price. Let me tell you after using it regularly for more than a year, I do not have any regrets and this is rightly priced. Remember that you get for what you pay. I guess it is the sturdy construction and the high quality nonstick coating material that adds up to the cost. This measures about 13x8x2 inches and can poach almost perfect 4 eggs simultaneously and this is a wonderful addition to a small family kitchen.

The pan is made of hard anodized aluminum and by the virtue of this material the poacher gets heated up instantly and the temperature is uniformly distributed across that pan without any thermal loss. The thick walled pan does not warp, bend or develop thermal spots. This comes as a double bonanza because without the insert the pan can be used as a skillet and it is simply amazing. The egg comes out perfectly without a running white or overcooked yolk. This takes very little time and it does not make me wait for 7 to 10 minutes like my previous Farberware. Have a close eye on the desired consistency of the poached egg because of the superior heat conductivity the egg changes its stages faster than in any other poacher. This is not a problem because the tempered hard glass transparent see through lid allows you to keep an eye on the progress of poaching without even opening the lid.
