Have you ever walked in someone's home that had a strong unpleasant odor? Did you hold your breath hoping that the odor would go away? Sure, we all have! Whether it smells like body odor, smoke, pet urine, cooking, or mildew, the scent of a home can say a lot about a person. So, why does an unwanted odor tend to still linger around the house even after you have sprayed air freshener or lit a candle? The problem is you have to find the right technique that works for you and the odor, of course.

Cleanliness plays a major role in maintaining an odor free house. Don't expect for your home to smell fresh when there are dirty dishes in the sink that has been sitting for days, the trash can is filled to the top or even the family dog haven't been bathed in weeks. There are several techniques to overcome those strong unwanted odors. If you are a smoker, the best advice is, "Do not smoke in the house! ", says Mary Rogers, a peer of mine who suggests that spraying your house regularly with Lysol will not only eliminate those bad odors but also disinfect at the same time. I know there is some smokers out there that refuse to go outside especially in the winter months just to smoke. In that case, utilize just one room to smoke which keeps the odor to a minimum. Crack a window for an easy outlet for the odor to escape and when done, light a candle or incense to bring the room back to freshness.

Scented candles are great for the home especially when you find that right fragrance that captures your nose that leaves a pleasant desirable smell. Scented candles are the most popular home scenting techniques that Americans use that comes in many different scents. A scented candle usually can burn up to 6-8 hours. For your strong odors, more than one candle may be required to use especially if you have a large home. Scented candles tend to bring the ambiance or mood to a home as well as decorative.

Incense fragrances can also be of such great strength it too eliminates less desirable odors and they are usually cheaper than scented candles. It releases fragrant smoke when burn and it usually a slow burning process.
