Prince Harry, third in line to the British crown, will be removed from military service in Afghanistan immediately, according to a USA Today report.

Late Thursday evening it was revealed by a United States website, the Drudge Report, that he had been serving in the British military in Afghanistan for the past ten weeks.

Several media outlets knew about Harry's service and were allowed to document it so long as they kept it secret until his military campaign had ended.

There are grave concerns that due to his royal status, Prince Harry will become a "bullet magnet" for Taliban forces eager to take out a member of the British Royalty. The British Government deemed that any further operation would be too dangerous for Harry, and would jeopardize his safety as well as the safety of the soldiers in his regiment.

As someone who has had two cousins serve in Iraq-one currently, one three years back-this story strikes me on a very personal level.

The British military should be commended for what they have done in sending Harry to the front. For a member of royalty to go through rigorous military training and be sent to the front lines to go head-to-head with armed Taliban forces is a very noble effort by the family. I wish our government leaders would send more of their children to conflicts they overwhelmingly approve, as it may make them think twice about sending our men and women into battlefields when it isn't absolutely necessary.

After all, the British military did its best to keep Prince Harry's involvement in the war a secret. They asked all media outlets to not run the story until after Harry's time in Afghanistan had ended, and it worked successfully for ten weeks. Harry had earned the respect of his fellow servicemen, and had adapted well to the job he was asked to do as a solider.

Pity this news was leaked. Kudos to Harry for serving.

The real question about all this is who leaked it? I didn't know Harry was in Afghanistan until the news broke, because the last public word on the matter was that he would not be sent.
