One day she bubbles
at everything.
No one knows
what makes her sing.

The next day she's angry
no one knows why.
Her fire spreads,
she's about to fry.

Bipolar people have two distinct personalities. At one end of the pole, they are extremely happy. This mood can last for weeks or months. On the other end of the pole, they are extremely depressed or angry. This mood can also last for weeks and months. This behavior disorder has also been known as manic depressive. Unfortunately, because of this behavior disorder, they usually cannot hold down a full time job. Also, for obvious reasons, they have a difficult time with relationships with family and friends. Medication helps somewhat, but it doesn't seem to be enough to make changes in their lives.

I would appreciate any comments on this subject if you can offer more knowledge or experience whith this type of behavior disorder. The reason why I'm so interested is because I know someone who had this problem and because of her unhappiness, she committed suicide. Thank you if you can add any more about this behavior disorder.

(comment cut off) what I was trying to add was that I hope you do not feel guilty about the person who committed suicide. A determined person can get around the efforts of friends and family to help.

I have known people who I suspect are bipolar. One suggestion. Please go to Youtube and look up the skater Christopher Bowman or read about Robert Downey Jr, the actor, also treated for bipolar disorder. This is a very serious condition, with chemicals in the brain causing delusions and it can cause financial and emotional havoc if it is extreme. I also know this, having researched it: bipolar disorder has levels of "cycling". Cycling basically means periods of mania (joy) and depression(the low part). Some people are rapid cyclers, going from high to low in a matter of minutes or hours - EVERY day. Some people have infrequent stages of mania and depression. Jane Pauley wrote a book about her experience with mania after she had an unexpected reaction to a medication. She didn't know she was manic but a wise therapist caught it. Just another example of how someone in the grip of mania or bipolar disorder can not recognize the illness. I hope you do not feel guilty. The person I k

Howdy-Ho, Harriet! First, my deepest condolences at the loss of your friend. Second, this is a great poem that says more in a few stanzas than an entire article could have. I lived with Bi-polar people as a kid, and it was usually very terrifying, for sure!

I'm not sure if I am bi-polar or not, but I do get sad sometimes and that can last a while. I've never really thought about it actually. I really do love your poem and your commentary. I hope you write more about it, so I can learn more! ***************************************************

HELLO HARRIET, being the Coffee Mugg that I am I am bi-polar, and it aint no fun. My meds have helped me extremely, but it took awhile before they found the right combination, and by that time my second marriage was over. My mood changes use to be instant, and they would fluctuate so fast that it was very hard to control at times. Maybe some day i will write more about it. Good Job.ken

Hi Harriett, I live with a bipolar daughter, and it can be a roller coaster, but rarely does bipolar people have only this one kind of schizophrenia, but have many other problems, such as schizoeffective psychosis. My daughter is stable now and doing very well, but it has taken a long time to get to this point and the delicate balance could tip the other way easily enough just by a change in medication, or changes in seasons of the year.
