With childhood obesity rates on the rise, as well as the concern for children's overall health, many parents opt to limit the amount of sugary sweets to provide children with on the Easter holiday. Instead of filling the plastic Easter eggs with chocolates and bubble gum, most parents choose to fill these Easter egg hunt staples with little toys and treasures. After the fun of finding these goodies wears off, what should be done with these little toys that brought the children so much joy? A wonderful way to keep them on display is to use them for a Treasure Mirror. Read this article for directions on how to make this easy and fun craft.

Supplies:
Mirror with wood or plaster frame
Small toys and treasures
Beads, bottle caps, sequins and colorful stones to fill in the gaps
Craft sticks
Cup for mixing
Gloves
Masking Tape
Measuring Spoons
Plaster of Paris
Sponge Painting Brush
White, Green, Blue or Yellow Acrylic Paint

Carefully remove the mirror from the frame. If you can not remove the mirror from it's original frame, this is where the masking tape comes into play. Place strips of masking tape on the mirror where the frame and the mirror meet. This will keep the mirror from getting messy while working on your project.

Paint your mirror frame in the acrylic paint color of your choice with the sponge brush. While white is always a great choice, you can choose a primary paint
color that matches your child's room.

After placing the gloves on, mix six tablespoons of Plaster of Paris with two tablespoons of water in a mixing cup. Use your craft stick to mix thoroughly.

Using a clean craft stick, start applying the Plaster of Paris to the mirror frame. Work on one side at a time. Aim for at least a half inch thick layer of Plaster of Paris on each side of the mirror. Using a craft stick or your glove protected fingers, work the toy treasures into the Plaster of Paris. Use the suggested items or any other adorable little items you have on hand to fill the empty spaces. You want to make sure to fill all the spaces with very little bare Plaster of Paris showing.
