College dorm beds are probably one of the least comfortable to sleep places I can think of. Every college shopping list includes one of those cheap egg crate foam pads to put under the sheets but they barely help at all. If you are looking for a great gift to purchase for someone who is going off to college and probably will not have a real bed for the next four years, consider the Bodipedic Comfort Options Memory Foam Twin Mattress Topper for $141 from QVC.

This product is versatile because it has two different sides that can be the top. On one side, there is 2 inches of high density memory foam. On the other side, there is a 5 inch dual layer of microfiber for softness. This layer is removable. I like to use the product with the memory foam layer on the bottom and the microfiber layer on top. The whole thing comes with a removable layer that can be taken off and thrown in the wash.

The microfiber layer can be removed and can be used separately from the memory foam layer. This way, the product can be used on two beds for the price of one product. The product is made for twin sized beds so it is about 8 inches too short for most XL twin dorm beds but this does not really bother me. If you are not extra tall you will not even notice.

One problem I had with it my first year was that it would slide around each night and I would have to readjust it in the morning. I fixed this by picking up a cheap mattress cover and putting it over the product.

I really love how the microfiber heats up and holds your body heat. It stays nice and warm at night in drafty dorm rooms. I often find that I only need to sleep with a sheet over me.

This is a great product if you have a cheap or very hard mattress. It softens it up enough to make it comfortable. The memory foam is able to support your back and prevent pressure from the springs in the mattress. If you like it even softer, add the microfiber layers. I would recommend this product for anyone who is looking for a way to make their bed more comfortable without the expense of purchasing a new mattress. I have even slept comfortably on the floor with this product when in a pinch.
