Are Gorton's Tenders Whole Battered Fish Fillets any good? I tried them out this afternoon for my and my kid's lunch. The results are in now, and I must say opinions are mixed in my family. While I wasn't overwhelmed with feelings of gastronomic delight, I was, at least, not puking on the floor.

My Gorton's Tenders Original Batter Whole Fish Fillet Tenders in a Crispy Batter(!) originated from my weekly trip to Fred Meyer's. While I normally tend to keep as far as possible from the Frozen Dinners Section of my favorite supermarket, this week I felt compelled to treat my children to a barrage of easily cooked foods.

Mostly, this was due to the fact that I started a new job, and knew instinctively that my baby sitter would be spending most of her time chasing after a wild one-year-old, trying to keep him from repeatedly ripping off his diaper, and breaking up vicious fights with his sister over whether to watch Pokemon or SpongeBob SquarePants. So, armed with this knowledge, I felt that cooking should be as easy and as painless as possible.

Instead of saving this particular treat for my baby sitter's cooking ease, I was taken by those golden and crispy fish sticks on the yellow Gorton's box, and felt compelled to try them out for lunch this afternoon.

Cooking my Gorton's Tenders was extremely easy. I threw them on a baking sheet and threw them in the oven. I didn't even have to turn them. For the Easiness Factor, I have to give them a Ten. Or an A+ if you prefer. Normally, my homemade breaded fish takes a large amount of effort, with all the mixing flour and spices, cutting the fish into pieces, and general messiness and cleanup factors. This was definitely a huge improvement.

Taste and texture are a whole different matter, however. My Gorton's Tenders, for all their benefits, are rather dull fish sticks. There was almost no flavor. The flavor wasn't bad, merely "OK". The crust was nice and crispy, which I enjoyed, but the fish itself was mushy and nondescript.

That's interesting. I've never liked anything from that company and I've always hated fish sticks...lol. Great review, thank you!
