When it comes to kid's birthday parties I have to admit that health is usually not my main concern. I try to give kids stuff they like it is a part after all. When I throw kids only parties I usually stick to what most kids like, and that is pizza, macaroni and cheese, and hot dogs. However if you are having a party where you will be serving snacks and appetizer type food rather than an actual meal you can certainly get more creative, and more healthy. Here are some suggestions.
Cheater Treats
Cheater treats are treats where you don't have to work a lot because the work has already been done for you.
Apples and Caramel dip: You can find the caramel dip in the grocery store already made, then all you have to do is slice up the apples and you have a nice easy healthy snack. Actually these days you can even find the apples already sliced at most grocery stores.
Spinach Dip and Hawaiian Bread: Don't tell the kids its spinach dip, just let them eat it, most kids do like it, but they won't try it if you tell them it is spinach dip. You can usually buy spinach dip pre-made at the grocery store in the deli. You can also buy Hawaiian bread at the grocery store; it is frequently located near the deli. All you have to do is pull the middle out of the bread, try and make as nice of a circle as you can. Then you tear up the bread that pulled out, in to bite sized pieces. These will be used to dip in the spinach dip. Then you just pour the spinach dip in the hole you made in the bread. You can even just place the deli container with the spinach dip in it directly in the hole.
Soft Pretzels and Dips: You can find soft pretzels in the freezer department all you have to do is heat them to get them soft. You can set out a few different dips out for the kids to dip their pretzels in, you can put out some mustard, some melted cheese sauce, or even a mix of melted butter, and parmesan cheese, and spaghetti sauce.
Pizza Sticks: My kids love the Hot Pockets Twisted Pizza sticks. This is a great snack for kids and very simple to prepare right in your microwave.
