There are certain things never to say on a business call. It is important to remain professional while talking during a business call. Here are ten things never to say on a business call.

1. Almost always never tell your client that you work out of a home office. Clients don't want to know that you work out of a home office since it doesn't impress most of them. Make sure to remain professional at all times and don't say anything that would imply that you work at home.

2. Never tell your clients that the reason why any projects aren't completed is due to depression or any other mental issues. You don't want your clients to get scared away by hearing about the problems in your life.

3. Never tell your clients that you are not very educated. Why? It doesn't impress them very much at all since most clients want to deal with a professional who knows exactly what they are doing.

4. Never tell your clients that your children or other people is what caused you to not complete an project or delay a project. This is give them the impression that you aren't serious about what you do as a profession. The only exception to this is when it is a real emergency.

5. Never tell your clients that you are in school when you really aren't. Don't lie to clients unless you want to start keeping track of how many times that you have supposedly been in school each year.

6. Never tell clients a different lie especially around the same time. Your clients will figure it out if they talk to each other. You don't want to tell lies with different stories to your clients.

7. Never tell your clients that you just got out of jail or probation. This will make your clients never want to do business with you again. You don't want your clients to think you have issues.

8. Never tell your clients that you outsource work all the time. If you tell them that you outsource work all the time then they will begin to wonder just how qualified you are in your profession.

9. Never tell your clients that you got the work half way completed when perhaps you don't. You need to be honest with your client and let them know the real status. They will appreciate you being honest.

Takeaways
  • Never tell your clients that you are in school when you really aren't.
  • Never tell your clients that you just got out of jail or probation.
  • Never tell your clients that you are not very educated.

I'm not sure if I'm more amazed that there is a need to state such things or that people downrank the article! This gives the impression that many think it's acceptable to do such things. As a professional clients do not need to know details of your life. If I were dealing with someone more concerned with their own education and jail time than getting a project done it'd be pulled so fast it'd make them wonder if it was ever there! If you don't have confidence in yourself to do a job why should anyone PAY YOU? These should be common sense but I'm sure it's happened.
