One kids birthday party game that is sure to please is a treasure hunt. Kids love the adventure of going on a quest for treasure. Having a treasure hunt game at your kid's birthday party is easy to do. Here's a list of things you will need:

Booty:

Depending on if this is a birthday party for girls or boys or a mix thereof, your choice of booty is important. If it is a girls only party, I suggest some cheap baubles like necklaces, bracelets and earrings, nail polish, lip gloss, etc. If it is a boys only party, try a treasure of plastic soldiers, trading cards, marbles, etc. Since no treasure would be complete without some gold, a Gold Presidential or Sacagawea Dollar or two is a nice touch. A bag of toy gold pieces can be purchased at Party America very inexpensively. In fact, Party City even offers a pirate chest designed to be a table decoration, but it is small enough that it could be easily filled with booty and hidden. The cost of the pirate chest table decoration is about $4 and would make an excellent treasure chest for this birthday party game.

Map:

Once you have hidden the booty, you must create a map. Draw an easy to follow map for younger children and then one a little harder for older children. If you would think it would be easier if the children worked in teams, cut the map in sections and pass them out with a roll of scotch tape. Number the pieces so that everyone must buddy up and no one feels chosen last. Everyone should have fun playing this birthday party game! For very young children, this game is easily adapted by hiding trinkets in a sandbox and providing shovels. Having a separate treasure hunt for the younger guests while the older ones go on a treasure quest will ensure everyone has a good time at the party.

Favors:

So that the children will remember their treasure hunt and to get them into the spirit of hunting for pirate booty, purchase pirate eye patches at a store like Party City. These are an inexpensive party favor, as they come in packages of four. You can also purchase a package of inexpensive handkerchiefs to tie on your little pirates' heads. Careful consideration of party favors will make your birthday party game a success.

Takeaways
  • Treasure hunts are fun for kids, especially the under 10 crowd.
  • Party favors need not be expensive. Pirate patches for four children cost about $1 each.
  • Party City has a great treasure chest, perfect for hiding.

How fun! I'm coming to your house but I hope the map is really simple, LOL.

Mine too! We used to hide wrapped candy in her sand box when she was 3. She really liked digging up the ring pops!
