No one wants their Mom to cook or be anywhere near a kitchen on Mother's Day, which explains why it's one of the most popular days for restaurants. But with a wait time for a table despite making reservations, crowded restaurants, less attentive service, a rushed atmosphere and a limited menu, Mother's Day could end up more stressful than enjoyable. There are other options to explore that could bring better quality time with Mom on her special day. Here are just a few ideas that are appropriate for Moms of all ages and her family.

1. Picnic in the Park - May is an absolutely gorgeous month for picnicking. The weather is perfect and spring has sprung its beauty. On Mother's Day Sunday, plan to take your Mom to your local city park or the main park in your state. The Saturday before, stop at your local deli for an array of prepared foods. Perhaps start off your Mother's Day Picnic with an appetizer of tomatoes and mozzarella cheese accompanied by a fresh loaf of Italian bread. Then move on to a fresh green salad. For the main course, consider a quiche, pasta salad, lasagne, or a medley of meat and vegetables. Anything that needs to be heated can be done just before leaving the house and kept warm in an insulated bag. Be sure to pack a cloth tablecloth, cloth napkins and champagne glasses in your picnic basket for a nice added touch. If your public park does not allow alcohol, substitute bubbly water or juice for champagne or wine. After picnicking, enjoy the rest of the day with Mom, perhaps walking the flower gardens, playing family games in the grass, or just talking about her favorite things - books, music, movies, etc., or the fun you had growing up with her as your Mom!

2. Limo Fantasy - Here's a five star way to treat Mom like a celebrity. Hire a limo and take Mom to the theater, a shopping trip, a vineyard, the beach, botanical garden, casino, or any other destination you know she'll enjoy. A number of limousine services offer meal packages, or you could plan your own. Depending on your destination, you could include a stop at one of Mom's favorite informal eateries. They're likely to be less crowded on Mother's Day than formal restaurants.

Thank you for those fresh ideas for Mother's Day. I really like the Limo Fantasy. I think I may have to borrow that one!
