If you've ever purchased an item because the manufacturer advertised a substantial rebate after purchase, your intentions are well-founded. Cash back on your purchase in the form of a rebate is well worth it. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that I've not had enough experience in the matter to realize that rebates are a complete waste of time. However, after five years of filling out literally hundreds of rebates on technology products as well as miscellaneous odds and ends products, I have come to the conclusion that rebates are indeed worth the effort. But only if you follow certain procedures. The number three complaint on the Illinois attorney general's list of consumer issues is rebate fulfillment. If you've ever filled out a rebate only to realize in four months that you never received the check promised to you by the company within two months, then you've experienced this problem. Lately, I've been encountering this roadblock a few too many times. I even got to the point where I thought rebates were borderline on the useless category. But then I started to put my tax-dollar-funded government branch, the Illinois Attorney General, to work for me by doing something radical: I filled out a form.
