Recently I have been doing a lot more accounting than normal and some of it hasn't been on Quicken. When I was in Office Depot and saw the Ativa hand-held printing calculator, with a mail-in rebate, I just had to purchase it. The retail price was $14.99, plus tax with a $5 mail-in rebate. It came with a part roll of paper but I also purchased a 3 pack of rolls of paper for $3.49.

The calculator is slightly bigger than my hand and can run on batteries or plugged into an outlet. The L.C.D. is large and very easy to read. The numbers are so large that I can actually take my glasses off and still read the screen. When on the print mode, which is just the press of a button, the figures print out clear and are easy to read.

I purchased this product purely to go to someone's home and be able to add figures and have proof that they are correct. Therefore I will only use the basics on this machine.

There is a one page manual in English and Spanish. The hardest thing to do was to get the edge of the paper from the roll to feed into the machine. Even though it gives the steps and diagrams it still took a few minutes to achieve this function.

This machine has a printing speed of 2.0 lps and allows up to 12-digits across. It can be used on a desk top or held in the hand as it is shaped to contour to your hand. You have to purchase 4 AA batteries as they are not included if you do not plug the machine into an outlet.

It states on the box:"Stores tax rates that can be recalled and used whenever needed.

Calculates profit margin and tax functions with just a few keystrokes.

Automatic power-off function.

Calculates tax, profit margin, time, percentage add-on/discount."

I won't be using the tax calculation but the time calculation with help me. I have to do payroll and caregivers may do 3 shifts in one day. This machine will work out the amount of hours and will also give me the amount of wages after I put in the $ amount per hour. I can then print it out and have a copy if there is ever a query with the amount I have paid.

The Ativa hand held calculator has a limited one year warranty.

It is distributed by Office Depot, Inc.,
2200 Old Germantown Road,
Delray Beach,
Fl 33445.

It is made in China.
