As October approaches and the leaves begin to turn colors and fall, you'll begin to start seeing the signs and notices advertising a host of Halloween activities. All across Long Island, New York, many towns and establishments will be hosting their own Halloween activities, some of them a yearly tradition, others premiering for the first time.

You'll find Halloween activities on Long Island for adults and children alike. Many of the elementary schools will be holding their own Halloween Costume Party, and some towns may feature a small children's Halloween parade. Your local community newspaper will likely have more information on such events.

In historic, scenic Stony Brook, The Dorothy and Ward Melville Carriage House will feature a Halloween Masquerade for children ages 3-5, on October 25th and 26th from 1-2pm. The Dorothy and Ward Melville Carriage House is affiliated with the Long Island Museum and children are sure to love the grounds as well as enjoy the Halloween Masquerade party. In West Sayville, the Long Island Maritime Museum hosts a traditional Halloween Boat Burning, along with other Halloween activities and festivities. Easily one of the more unique Halloween activities on Long Island, the Halloween Boat Burning is based on a Viking tradition, and each year, the Long Island Maritime Museum uses and old wooden boat as the centerpiece for the event. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume, and refreshments will be available, as well as pumpkins for picking, and a bonfire in the evening.

The Harbes Family Farm in Jamesport, NY will be holding a Fall Festival from September 16th through October 29th. The Harbes Family Farm Fall Festival will feature many Halloween activities, including pumpkin picking, apple cider, candy apples, hayrides, and a large corn maze, fun for everyone, plus much more.
