Yes, you can watch some of your favorite prime time network TV shows without paying for cable or a satellite dish. You can watch them for free. Nobody will report you on Cabletheft.com on you, and these are not pirated videos. These full episodes of your favorite TV shows are available at network web sites.

The trade off may be that you don't get to watch the show when it airs, but if you are using your DVR or TiVo anyway, you are accustomed to watching TV on your time. Here are the top official places where you can see full episodes of your favorite TV shows, and even some episodes of recently cancelled shows.

For each web site, there are technical specifications listed as well as a list of available shows, availability and frequency of updates.

It's getting to the point that paying for cable Internet service and cable TV service is redundant. If you have a fast Internet connection, a fast computer, or AppleTV, or a an iMac with a quality monitor, you may be able to do away with your cable TV bill. If money is tight and you need to make a choice, the Internet may be the better option.

Access to these full episodes of your favorite TV shows also let you catch up on recent episodes you may have missed. How many previous episodes of each show that are available varies from show to show, and from network to network.

I've been looking for the first season episodes of Prison Break online, but can't seem to find them anywhere. Any ideas? (It's a Fox show)

I watched the turkey episode of WKRP in Cincinnati on the MSN site on Thanksgiving. I've got 40 of those taped, but never could find that episode on my tapes.

Excellent article! My youngest son watched Heroes using this.

(chuckle) I thought about that too! Actually, used textbooks, I discovered, actually are done differently than regular reading books, and turns out, that's one reason why they are so expensive! I used to love to buy used books, until I published a book and then found mine for sale used online, when I was only getting 30 something cents in royalties when a new one sold and NOTHING when a used one sold. Anyway, yes, with the official sites, it is different, but it's about 1/2 what a rerun would be for the writers - we're talking 2-4 cents, but that's only if they can verify it's been downloaded - it's just an iffy legal area right now that they're working on. I might just want to write about that. Thanks! Still, sent the link to this to my daughter....LOL She never gets to watch TV.

Yes I know, but my cable internet is part of the low cost package. Plus, I don't have to go to movie rental places or to the theatre unless I just feel up to it. I can't get local channels anyway without cable or satellite television.

I see your points, Michy. Although I admit that I have bought my share of used books, and as a college student I didn't have much choice. I do know that these are official places, not bootlegged copies, so there may be more of a chance of the right people getting compensated than when these shows and others are watched on illegal sites, including YouTube. I don't know the details of the writers' contracts in terms of TV shows online, or of DVD copies of shows which are sold. Sounds like an interesting article for someone :-)

My issue, as a writer, with the 'free' television episodes is that there is some debate with the writer's guild as to whether the writers of these shows are being paid for the 'free' shows that are showing online. I know they are working on how to manage this media stuff with the writers, but it's recently been a big issue. Pam, know I'm not knocking the article. It's great information, but much like I won't buy used books or download free music, I'm not sure how I feel about this free television until I learn more about how the writers are being paid for it. Good information and great writing as usual :)

Great article. I would rather watch the shows on my time anyway. For some reason "prime time" is my time for every family activity under the sun.

Great article girl. I still like my big screen TV compared to my little computer monitor.

You did an excelent job on this! We found out about this about a month or so ago. Since then we have watched the entire collection of Lost, Jareko, Journey Man, and Medium. All the Medium episods are gone accept the last three though! You really did a great job covering all the networks that offer full episodes!
