Foods, just like languages differ from state to state and country to country. For the most part it's an exciting culinary experience to try new foods in new locales, but be forewarned that some foods are best avoided. I've decided to help you avoid three of the worst Colombian "delicacies." Don't blame me if you skip this article and end up eating one out of sheer ignorance. You have been warned.Okay, maybe food is too strong a word to use with the three dishes listed below, but that's just my opinion. You be the judge.

Relleno - rice soaked in pigs blood and deep fried to a burnt crisp inside cow intestine.
Acrid taste, but went down reasonably well. It's the aftertaste you have to watch out for -- it was truly awful and didn't go away for a full 24 hours.

Takeaways
  • Ignorance can be bliss -- If you like a foreign food, ask for the recipe after digestion is complete
  • Just because a food has a fancy name doesn't mean it will taste good
  • Politely Decline -- It's less rude to leave food on your plate than to vomit at your host's table
Did You Know?
Did you know that in Colombia you can buy and eat fried or roasted ants? They are a large variety and other than the fact that the legs can scratch a bit on the way down if not chewed properly, taste pretty good -- crunchy with a hint of smoky flavor.
