I remember planning a teen birthday party for me and my friends when I was in high school. I didn't really choose a theme, instead I decided on what kind of party I wanted to have, and what kind of food I wanted to serve, which was usually determined by the amount of money my parents would allow me to spend. If you have a teen birthday party to plan and you aren't sure what kind of party to throw, then consider some of the suggestions below, they worked great for me.

General Hangout Teen Birthday Party

Sometimes I decided that rather than really emphasizing the fact that it was a birthday party my friends would be attending, I decided to opt for a night of just generally hanging out. We would do the wacky things that teens like to do when they hang out including, playing board games, talking about the latest high school gossip, and just being silly and ridiculous. I would usually just plan to have hamburgers and hot dogs for this type of party, with plenty of junk food and pop to go along with the meal. I would still have cake and ice cream, but that was about as far as the birthday party theme went at this teen birthday party.

Movie Night Teen Birthday Party

My friends and I really loved watching all different kinds of movies, so planning a movie night teen birthday party worked great for my circle of friends. We would usually have pizza, candy, popcorn, and pop while we watched whatever movies my friends and I scrounged up, no need to rent. Since movies generally made us sleepy after a while, I would reserve this teen birthday party idea for a slumber party rather than for a girl/boy party.

Dance Teen Birthday Party

One of the best teen birthday parties I ever attended was a dance party. The garage had lights and a sound system going so that we could dance the night away, but there were also other things we could do, like jumping on the trampoline, or just sitting around and talking. The dance teen birthday party was a blast! There were all kinds of snacks served, but no real meal, which kept the party going. If your teen loves to dance, then this party is a great idea, and if you own your own sound system then it is a very affordable option.
