It is very important for a rabbit to get proper exercise so they can stay in good health and it is important that their home, usually a cage protects them from the elements and predators. When choosing a hutch or cage for your rabbit there are some things to look for. Rabbit hutches come in a variety of shapes and sizes and so you will have lots to choose from.

It is extremely important that the hutch that you choose has enough space that your rabbit as an adult can stand up tall and be able to do several hops in one direction. The quality of the hutch is important because your rabbit will spend a lot of time in it scurrying about, chewing on it and digging around. Wooden hutches that have a varnish that is not harmful to a rabbit are ideal. You want the hutch to allow plenty of fresh air to come into it for your rabbit as well as natural sunlight.

There are many different designs that a rabbit hutch can be. Some of them are one story while others have two stories. Some hutches are designed to hold many different rabbits, that at times need to be separated and they are called block hutches, usually they are used by professional rabbit breeders. A great kind of rabbit hutch will have a running area for the rabbit to get all the exercise that they need but they will still be out of reach of predators and themselves will not be able to run away. Make sure that the hutch that you are using or will be getting will hold a litter tray, feeding tray and water bottle.

There is the option of using a hutch cover to help protect the hutch and your rabbit from less than ideal weather. However they must be used with caution and as soon as the harsh weather ends the cover needs to be removed. Unfortunately a hutch cover will not provide as much ventilation for the rabbit's home as there would be without a cover. For this they need to be removed to prevent the temperature rising in the hutch and it becoming to warm and uncomfortable for the rabbit.
