I was thinking the other day of how much I loved it when I was allowed the chance to sneak a peek inside my mother's cedar chest. Inside was a wealth of treasures as far as I was concerned - teeny tiny preemie clothes that my little sister wore when she was born 6 weeks early, well-tended scrapbooks, and a box of oil pastels that were little more than nubs from my mom's use. What sticks in my mind the most, though, was that cedar scent. It permeated the items safely nestled inside the chest, so every time I catch a whiff of that scent I'm immediately transported back to my mom's bedroom, kneeling beside it in awe as she carefully sifted through her most treasured possessions.
I have a cedar chest of my own now. It contains baby blankets and photo albums and a few other goodies tucked beneath the layers of sheets that I store there because apartment living doesn't offer a lot of storage space. I still catch that scent and smile ... but I thought it would be neat to create "my own" scent that could be connected to the items I create for my daughter and two neices.
Then I started scouring the Internet for crochet sachet patterns ... but none of them suited my needs. What I wanted was a sachet that could be treasured not only because it was pretty and handmade, but because it could be used over and over for years to come. I wanted something that could be washed, pressed, and refilled.
So, I sat down and created my own.
You'll just need to know how to do a crochet chain, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet in order to complete this very pretty - and extremely quick - pattern. Then, you can slip them inside all your handmade items for a loving touch all your own.
