Your dog is a valued member of your family. You have invested your time, money and love in your four legged friend. Do you ever wonder about the food you feed him? I am a little leary after the horrible pet food recalls of 2007. I want nothing but the best for my dogs. You hear a lot of different opinions about feeding your dog. Some people say anything is fine for a dog to eat, others say any table scrap or human food is bad for a dog.

If you are worried about what your dog is eating, or you just want to spoil your dog a little bit you could try preparing your own dog food. If you prepare the food on your own, you know exactly what is in it. You must be careful to properly cook any meats, and store the food properly to avoid spoilage and sickness.

A wonderful and easy recipe I use is for treats. We call them Chicken Liver Cookies. They are sure to be a favorite with your furry friend. You will need : 1 3/4 cup of cornmeal, 2 beaten eggs, 4 cups of flour, 1 ½ cup of cooked and chopped chicken liver, 5 tablespoons of corn oil and 3/4 cup of chicken broth, a greased cookie sheet, a floured surface, and a few cookie cutters.

First preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Combine cornmeal and flour in a large bowl. Add corn oil, chicken broth, and eggs, mix well. Next mix in chicken livers. Stir until well blended. On the floured surface . Make shapes with cookie cutters. Baked on the greased coolie sheet for 12 to 18 minutes. The Chicken Liver Cookies are done when they are firm, not burnt.

You should store these as you would a normal human cookie. Chicken Liver Cookies can be frozen, refridgerated, or stored in an air tight container.

This recipe can be changed around a little, you can substitute hot dogs and beef broth instead of chicken livers and chicken broth. Your dog will love the home made cookies, and they are fun to make. Just make sure you properly cook the meat to avoid food born illness with your dog. You might also want to properly label these cookies as Chicken Liver Dog Cookies to avoid a mix up.
