Sure, your dress straps can break during the prom exposing your underwear or worse. Yes, your date can turn out to be a dud. The heel on your shoe could break. Your limo driver could be late. These are the nightmares many prom goers worries about, and all of these things could very well happen, but the chances are slim. When planning a prom or any event, the best thing you can do is plan all that you can and then go with the flow. The key to keeping prom disasters from becoming prom stoppers is preparation. Here are some things you can do to make sure prom troubles remain minor.
Clothing malfunction at the prom: Bring a bag with you to the prom that you leave in the vehicle. In case of an emergency, someone can go out and grab it for you. It should contain a sewing kit with thread to match your outfit, a shawl to keep you warm, and a spare dress. I don't mean that you should purchase a second prom dress, but you should bring and alternate simple hot little number with you that will allow you to change and get back to the party should a disaster happen. The cool thing about having a backup dress is that most people will think you changed because you chic and stylish, not because your dress split ripped up to your navel.
Likewise, your shoes could break or just plain old make your feet hurt. Bring a second pair of shoes. This will not only allow you to change shoes in case of a problem, but to have more comfortable shoes to enjoy the after party.
Will your prom be ruined if your date turns out to be a dud? If he acts like a moron with his friends, will you sit there and pout. If she dances with everyone but the janitor, will you sulk in a corner? Occasionally a bad prom date happens, but you need to go the prom with the attitude that you are there to enjoy your friends and that your date is not the focus of the evening. If your prom acts like a moron, hang out with your other friends and continue to have a good time. Oh, and bring carfare with you just in case.
