I cannot feel the song;
My spirit stands benumbed, devoid of music.
I would cry out, but my cries vanish like a fog in a sudden wind.
The drummer's drumming I hear as empty clattering,
And the singer's voice is a tuneless shriek.
The instrumentalists blow and bow in a cacophony of sound.
I cannot feel the song;
My feet are not moved to dance, I stand statue-like.
The music of the spheres is silence,
And the emptiness of all my life crushes me down to utter ruin.
Will I ever be again a part of life renewed?
Does Spring come once more to one whose soul is dead?
I cannot feel the song.
